‘New Worlds’ for a Better World
Whether consciously or unconsciously, organizations either activate a world-building or a world-receiving mode of operating in their everyday lives. World-building organizations generate reciprocal flows of energy that magnetize participation and fertilize growth. They exert a force on the world that galvanizes change, seeding inspiration along the way. World-receiving organizations take their cues from the society as it exists, ever-primed to model their operations and relationships based on the latest sociopolitical pendulum swing.
Both modes require effort, but their effect sizes differ widely. World-building organizations generate a continuous momentum that can be seen and felt, as they evolve from successful interventions to community impacts, and from there, to influencing policy change. World-receiving organizations seeking safety in façade, on the other hand, constantly grapple with ‘holding onto-tosis.’ They exert energy to hold onto their staff, hold onto their donors, hold onto their leaders. All this due to their insistence on holding onto conventional approaches that simply do not inspire.
Inspiration is key, vibrant energy is key, daring to fail while honoring your heart is key—in the quest to building a better world. A world that works for the most of us. And a critical bridge between the now and this better world will be the cadre of organizations who are determined to be world-builders.
